Professional Statement

Dr. Andrea Braun is board certified in Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Critical Care Medicine. After graduating from the prestigious Ruprecht-Karls University Medical School in Heidelberg, Germany, she pursued training in the UK, Germany, and then moved to the US, where she received her internal medicine residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then pursued a nephrology fellowship at Harvard, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. She received her critical care training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Currently, Dr. Braun practices critical care in the ICU at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also Associate Program Director for the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Braun is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and serves on the Education Outcomes Subcommittee of Chest. She is passionate about educating the next generation of critical care physicians, and has an interest in developing interactive learning methods beyond the traditional lecture format. In addition to Medical Education, Dr. Braun is involved in Quality Improvement in the ICU. During her training, Dr. Braun has conducted basic science research in immunology/rheumatology for a year at the Mayo Clinic, and in nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During nephrology fellowship at Harvard, she was involved in clinical research about the role of vitamin D in critical care.
