Professional Statement

Dr. Patel looks forward to partnering with you in the management of your glaucoma and eye care. In addition to a love of innovations in ophthalmology and glaucoma care, her greatest joys are her children and family. She and her Aggie husband Patrik love exploring new restaurants and are foodies. In 2021, Dr. Patel returned home to Houston to join the Baylor faculty at her alma mater. Her clinical interests include medical and surgical treatment for glaucoma in adults and cataract surgery. She has experience with the majority of glaucoma interventions including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery to help patient reduce medication burden. She will also serve as Vice Chief of Ophthalmology Service for Ben Taub Hospital where she will use her MBA skills to increase access and care for indigent populations. Dr. Patel is a well-regarded clinician and surgeon with a strong interest in resident surgical education and was awarded Surgical Teacher of the Year in 2021 at UC Davis. After her residency and a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at the Duke Eye Center, she was recruited back to California. She served as the Chief of Eye Care Services at the Sacramento Veterans Affairs Hospital and Assistant Professor at UC Davis Eye Center for six years. She is a member of a number of professional organizations and has served in various leadership roles in the American Glaucoma Society (AGS) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and was the previous President-Elect of the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The AAO has recognized Dr. Patel with an Achievement Award and Secretariat Award for her education and advocacy services to the organization and her peers.
